The Super Bowl madness is over and it was interesting for a European to witness first hand what that thing means in America. A full week of "will Freeney play or not?", of statistics and experts weighing in. Not an expert myself, I said the Saints will win it. Don't ask why, but I had my reasons. And the Saints had an amazing second half, starting with an inspired onside kick that reminded me of the wildcard game between the Packers and the Cardinals. It worked than, it worked now. The difference is that this time it helped the Saints to win the game. The fact that one of the greatest QBs that ever lived threw an interception didn't help the Colts' cause.
In the middle of the football madness, the Avs had a game Saturday night against the bottom dwellers Oilers. And thankfully the Avs didn't disappoint, winning it 3-0, with Wolski back on the scoring list, with a little help from Duchene, that is getting better and better. Also, Liles was again out of the lineup. Don't ask me why. Maybe I'm not the most objective person when it comes to certain players, Liles being one of them, but I still consider he's better than Clark. And, to his credit, although he didn't play, John came to talk to fans, give autographs and take pictures with them, smiling and being as nice as possible. You don't see that too often from a sports star.
It was weird that Budaj was not in net, we don't know why Sacco doesn't want to give Andy a rest. It was the perfect opportunity, a team that doesn't do very well was coming to town. And when the boys are playing every other day a rest for Andy and a start for Peter would've been reasonable. But since I don't coach the Avs – yet – I can't questions Sacco's motives after a shotout win.
Tonight there's another game and maybe the Avs will get out of their funk and start closing up on the Canucks. Leading the division before the Olympic break would be great for the morale of the team.
