First gameday on Invasion IV is over, and what else can I say than: what a perfect start! After very entertaining 60 minutes of hockey the Avs defeated the Washington Capitals by the narrow margin of 2-1. But there were some other great experiences ahead of the this game.
After a big breakfast at 7:30 am in the morning, a good friend living in Denver picked us up and drove us to the hotel, where the Caps were staying. We tried to get some signatures from the Capitals and also some photos. But this first part of the day was not very successful. First we had to freeze a lot outside of the hotel and when the players were coming, just Knuble and Laich showed up. The other players including Ovechkin were heading right straight to the bus.
After this signature hunt, we went to Denvers heart, the 16th Street Mall, to do some Souvenir-Shopping. After buying some nice presents in the 16th street mall, we went on to Pepsi Center to continue our shopping with some Avalanche-stuff. And wow, when it comes to the Altitude shop, men suddenly turn into woman: credit cards are burning and money is going out of the wallet like water is running down the river. We came back to the hotel witch about 7 or 8 packs full of stuff.
After the successfull shopping trip, we tried to find some rest at the hotel and to prepare for the meeting with the Avalanche Brigade - a fanclub in Denver - and the game. When we arrived at Brooklyns, we thought we were alone. But after 20 minutes, more and more people turned up from this US fanclub and suddendly Eurolanche was joined by a party of about 12 people. Most of these people were very interested in Eurolanche and so we had a nice chat about our organisation.
After drinking some Pepsis - refill till the restrooms are calling - we went to Center to watch the game. Arriving at the center, we met Kyle Keefe and Peter McNabb from Altituted TV channel and they recognized us and were very happy to see us. We also talked about plans for the next games to maybe make an interview and a short documentation about Eurolanche. After going to our seats, it was finally gametime. The Avs had a very good game and especially Erik Johnson and Jean Sebastien Giguere had a very good game. Johnson scored his first goal of the season and Giguere had 25 saves. Although some of the Avs key players were missing (Quincey, Wilson, Mueller), the team showed great poise and were a little bit better than the Caps over 60 minutes. This is also why they won 2-1.
Johnson was the first star of the game and after 60 minutes, we hurried downstairs to meet the players. The meeting with the players was very successl as pretty much every Avs player stopped and joined us for some photos and signatures. So alltogether it was a very successfull start in for the Invasion. Hopefully the Avs will win the other games too. But before the Avs turn up again on Pepsi Center, the long awaited Football game between the Broncos and the Patriots will be visited. So be sure the have a look to morrow when the summary of our experiences from our first NFL game will be documented!
